03/05/2025 – MULBERRY, Ark. –

The crisp morning air of February 8th carried with it a sense of promise as officials, community leaders, and excited residents gathered for the groundbreaking ceremony of the Mulberry Water Treatment Plant expansion. With silver shovels gleaming in the winter sunlight despite the cold, chilly weather, we marked the beginning of a transformative $12.2 million project that represents both thoughtful planning and exceptional fiscal responsibility.

This expansion stands as a testament to Mulberry’s forward-thinking leadership. Nearly 68% of the project’s funding comes from secured grants—a remarkable achievement that highlights our city administration’s commitment to developing essential infrastructure while maintaining prudent financial stewardship.

The expanded facility will address two critical needs for our thriving community. First, it significantly increases our capacity to serve the growing number of residents and businesses choosing Mulberry as their home. Second, the design incorporates vital system redundancies that will allow for routine maintenance without any service disruptions—a convenience our citizens deserve.

“This is truly an auspicious occasion for Mulberry,” stated Mayor Gary D. Baxter. “We’re not just building for today’s needs but anticipating tomorrow’s opportunities. By securing substantial grant funding, we’re making these improvements while being responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars.”

As Mulberry continues to attract new families and businesses with our exceptional quality of life, this water treatment expansion ensures that our infrastructure grows alongside our population. The investment reflects our unwavering commitment to maintaining the high standards that make Mulberry a premier destination in our region.

The expansion project is expected to be completed by late spring or early summer of 2026, with minimal disruption to current services. Regular updates will be provided through the city’s official channels as this exciting improvement progresses.

For Mulberry, this isn’t just about expanding our water treatment capacity—it’s about building the foundation for our community’s bright future.
