Mayor Gary D. Baxter Honored with Ed Thicksten Distinguished Service Award
The City of Mulberry is proud to announce that Mayor Gary D. Baxter has been awarded the prestigious Ed Thicksten Distinguished Service Award by the Alma Area Chamber of Commerce. This esteemed recognition was presented to Mayor Baxter in a heartwarming ceremony held at the Alma Area Chamber of Commerce Awards Dinner on Tuesday evening.
The Ed Thicksten Distinguished Service Award is a symbol of appreciation and acknowledgment of outstanding contributions to the Alma community. Named after the late Ed Thicksten, a beloved figure who devoted his life to the betterment of the Alma area, the award has become a symbol of selfless dedication and unwavering commitment to the community.
Gary D. Baxter is retired from the U.S. Air Force, where he attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was elected Mayor for the City of Mulberry in November of 2010 and sworn in January 1, 2011. He was re-elected for a second four-year team in 2014, re-elected for a third term in 2018 and a fourth term in 2022.
Under Mayor Baxter’s leadership, Mulberry has experienced remarkable growth and development. His vision for the city has led to numerous initiatives that have improved the quality of life for its residents. He was instrumental in securing over 1.5 million dollars in State Aid for new industry bringing jobs to Mulberry’s Industrial Park including American Vegetable Soybean & Edamame Inc., Compass Cold Storage, and Brent Higgins Trucking just to name a few. The expansion of local parks and recreation facilities, and the promotion of small businesses are just a few of his many achievements.
As Mayor Baxter continues his exemplary service to the City of Mulberry, the Ed Thicksten Distinguished Service Award stands as a reminder of the positive impact one person can have on a community when driven by a sincere desire to make it a better place for all.
